Betty Sue Flowers is a scholar, teacher, translator, and essayist. She is best known for her work on literary theory, poetics, and myth. Flowers is the author of "Presence of Mind: Writing and the Domain Beyond the Cognitive," which explores the connection between consciousness and creativity. She has also translated several works of poetry, including "The Anchor Book of Chinese Poetry.". Flowers has worked as a professor of English and as director of the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library in Austin, Texas. She has been awarded numerous honors and fellowships throughout her career, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Texas Medal of Arts.
